It's a Wonderful Life. It isn't Christmas without this one.

Dear Yuletide Santa
yuletide
[info]maidenjedi
Do you know you're an angel? You are, truly. And I love you already, though I'm sure we've never met.

I thought I'd give you just a quick idea of what kind of fan I am, and go from there. I've been writing fanfiction for about twelve years, if you don't count the Batman stories I scribbled when I was supposed to be writing compositions for English class. I'm not known for writing fluff or happy endings, and I don't really read them, either. So, when I picked fandoms for my Yuletide request, I was aiming for the darker side in each one. Generally speaking, I prefer gen and het stories, though you'll notice exceptions in my requests. I don't mind explicit stories but I like plot more. AUs are fine, within the given time period for a specific work. Crossovers are likewise awesome, within the same limit.

So, more details....

Have a great holiday, Yuletide Santa. I wish I could make you some cookies, because you're already highly deserving of them.

FIC: You Never Close Your Eyes (Stephen King's It, 1/1)
dottie
[info]maidenjedi
TITLE: You Never Close Your Eyes
AUTHOR: Maidenjedi
RATING: Strong R, warnings for gore and non-con sex (not graphic).
ARCHIVE: List archives, otherwise please ask.
SPOILERS: Whole series is up for grabs.
DISCLAIMER: I don't own it. Or It, for that matter.
SUMMARY: The Derry High Senior Prom, Class of 1965.

--
AUTHOR'S NOTES: The title and preceeding lyrics are from "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin," which was a 2-week #1 hit in February 1965. I would have to assume it got major play at the prom in Derry. Just a shame Richie Tozier couldn't be there to serenade Bev with it! I have to assume that Richie, though, was more of a Herman's Hermits fan in '65, wherever he was.

Written for flyakate for NYR 2011.

Now, Oklahoma and Texas
sky
[info]maidenjedi
ETA - Feels like every place I've ever lived is getting hit with tornados this week. Oklahoma City is under threat of an EF4 right now. There's one in Chickasha as I type, already leveling homes, there's already video coming out of the news stations up there. There's another on the north side headed for Guthrie. If you know anyone in Oklahoma City, tell them to take cover if they haven't already. My aunt in Pittsburg KS also says that they are battening down the hatches there (it's SE Kansas, about 40 miles west of Joplin, MO).</eta>

Storm spotters in Oklahoma are telling me there's a pretty big twister crossing I-40 at El Reno. I'm also hearing that the "levels" in Oklahoma are four times as high as they would be to tip off meteorologists that they need to expect strong tornados.

The levels in north central Texas (think Dallas/Fort Worth) are just above the expected tornado levels and climbing.

When I checked the radar, there were four tornado warnings in Oklahoma along I-40. People in Edmond, north of OKC, are being told to find shelter now, and in the city of Enid, day care centers are closing ahead of the storm's arrival. ETA: At 5:02, the second tornado warning went out for Piedmont, OK. Oklahoma City is preparing to be hit as well./ETA

Meanwhile, seeing reports of baseball-sized hail in Palo Pinto County in Texas, moving NE. Possible tornado warning there, and local news is calling it the "first" one of the evening. My dad says they're already calling it the next "night of the twisters" up there.

Another long night ahead.

Joplin, MO Relief Efforts

I have family who live near Joplin, and thankfully they weren't hurt, but there was a lot of property damage outside the twister's path. Meanwhile, the early reports say 89 were killed in the twister that hit last night, and we're hearing that it may have been an EF4/EF5. It was definitely multi-vortex (meaning more than one funnel, or a funnel that split).

EDITED TO ADD: [info]lazypadawan put up a list of more ways to help Joplin out: http://lazypadawan.livejournal.com/760359.html

If you want to help with relief efforts, Mashable put together a quick list: http://mashable.com/2011/05/23/missouri-tornado/

All of Texas is experiencing drought conditions, and many parts of the state have been suffering from wildfires that have resulted from our dry, windy weather. The rain over the weekend definitely helped the Possum Kingdom Lake area, but it was not enough to help further south, and Texas is a BIG state. Here is some information about ways to help Texans in their time of need.

Country music artist Owen Temple is donating 100% of the profits from the sale of his latest CD to the Jeff Davis County Relief Fund and the State of Texas Agricultural Relief Fund (through May 19). You can pre-order the album and listen to one of the songs at his website.

XF Charity Drive Announcement

JJ and Prentiss, Olivia Benson, Buffy Summers, Temperance Brennan, Catherine Willows, Chloe Sullivan. What do all of these amazing tv women have in common?

They all came after Dana Scully.

Legendary Women, Inc. is a grassroots nonprofit organization, just getting off the ground. Their mission is to promote the positive portrayal of females in the media, powered solely by the viewers who love them. They are set to launch their website this month, and have chosen their first monthly honoree to be Special Agent Dana Scully, MD. For nine years, 202 episodes and two feature films, fans watched as she and her partner Fox Mulder asked the tough questions, risked their lives for the truth and each other, and finally found their happiness. Agent Scully is intelligent, clever, educated, courageous, and has set the tone for countless strong female characters that came after her.

In honor of Scully Month, LW is doing another charity drive. They are collecting money for the Gillian-Anderson endorsed Off The Street Kids, (OTSK) but with a fun twist. They are organizing a virtual screening of one episode of The X-Files, plus the 1998 feature film, The X-Files: Fight the Future. For your charitable donation of at least $5, you will receive a link to a chat room in which X-philes across the globe will simultaneously watch the Scully-centric episode from Season 7 entitled “all things”. After a 15 minute intermission, we will then screen the entire feature film. This event will take place on Saturday, April 30, 2011 at 8 PM EST.

Over the course of this roughly three hour event, we will have trivia, fun facts, some transcribed commentary from the dvd and the behind the scenes book, deleted scenes to view, even a drinking game for those over 21.

Additionally, we are auctioning off an playbill from David Duchovny’s off-Broadway play "Break of Noon", autographed by Fox Mulder himself. The signature is authentic; we can show you the pictures to prove it. (YES, MARIKOLOGY MET MULDER.)

Additionally, if you donate $20 or more, you will receive a customized Livejournal icon with your choice of screencapture and text.

We hope you will join us and take part in this one of a kind event!
